The Last Journey
My daughters keep asking me when I'm going to write in my blog again. I had no idea that I hadn't written since February - that is a long time - what can I say - I've been in a funk - big time! I'm still a caregiver for both my Dad and my mother-in-law, who, by the way, is back in my home as a hospice patient. She seems to be communicating on a regular basis with friends or family ready to take her on her last journey - she watches their every movement turning her head to follow them and frequently calling out Daddy or a name that I can't seem to make out clearly. While she is communicating there is
absolutely no way that I can get her attention. When she isn't communicating with the guys she is asleep. She is not demanding at all and there is a part of me that wishes that more of her being was still in this world. On the other hand, I wish her peace and a quick and easy journey. She does not appear to be in any pain and for that I am grateful. Last week a chaplain came for a visit and it just so happened that he was born and raised in Irwin, PA the same town Emily was born and raised!! She couldn't talk to him, however, she did smile a very weak smile and you just knew she was pleased with him. I've been making a scrapbook for Emily and now I'm working on it fast and furious so that it can be used for her friends and family at the funeral. I hope that it will be a big comfort to everyone. My daughter's have gathered poems that we can read (or have read) and they are beautiful. In fact, we have already purchased a beautiful burial dress that I know Emily would just love.
